What is VIR

Vascular and interventional radiology (VIR) is the name given to a wide range of image-guided and minimally invasive therapeutic procedures which involve the performance of operations through tiny pin-hole punctures under the visual control of high-technology medical equipment.

Certain common killer diseases, previously considered incurable or inoperable, can now be effectively treated with VIR. Examples include:

• Stroke
• Cancer and other tumors
• Hemorrhage from internal organs and limbs due to disease or injury
• Blood vessel diseases

VIR is a young and actively expanding subspecialty that has become an indispensable standard component of modern medicine in developed countries of the West. In Hong Kong it has also helped many patients, including children, resume healthy lives.
